Soft Orthotics for Flat Feet: Comfort and Support
Soft Orthotics for Flat Feet: Comfort and Support
The hardest orthotic is not automatically the most supportive in real life.
An insert only works when it provides enough control and remains comfortable enough to wear consistently.

Soft does not have to mean flat
A soft orthotic can still have a defined arch profile and deep heel cup. The material compresses under load while the overall shape guides the foot.
That combination can suit people who have found rigid devices uncomfortable.
The goal is appropriate support
Too little structure may collapse without changing how the foot moves. Too much pressure under the arch can make an otherwise useful device difficult to tolerate.
The right balance depends on foot shape, symptoms, activity and the available space inside the shoe.

Footwear is part of the prescription
A supportive insole needs a stable shoe or boot around it. Remove the old liner where possible, check that the heel remains secure and make sure the toes are not crowded.
If an off-the-shelf device is not enough, a podiatrist can assess whether a custom orthotic or different treatment is appropriate.
